Hello,
New around here, have been looking here for years but as you'll see...
Have a bit of a dilemma, currently making some rocksliders for my landrover, they're from 5mm steel box section and ive got to weld bits of 5mm plate to that too....main problem is;
Ive got access to two welders; a 200amp Murex Autolynx MIG, and a 180amp ESAB ARC welder...trouble is; they're both "at work" but I can bring them home over the evening and at weekends..obviously the mig is much harder to bring home with its bottles etc, but Im a little more confident my mig welding looks better. But the Arc is very very easy for me to bring home, just put it in the car..I welded some 4mm sheet fairly trouble free yesterday (penetrated right through well, wasnt "drooping" out the bottom and wasnt sitting on top..) with it as I brought it home to try out...photo's attached; what do you all think?
Other factors include; im not sure that the mig wont trip my garage breaker on a standard 13A socket, the arc when at work seems to be able to weld much much thicker without tripping their over sensitive breaker, whilst the mig might just keep tripping and not penetrate enough??
I just think that for something that people are going to look at, ie they're not standard so people will be interested to see how I made them, and I dont want the welding to look crap, but the Arc might be the strongest and best in my situation (esp welding in small places with the ease of getting the rod into the space!
Which welder should I bring home this weekend to get these sliders done?!!
Thanks all in advance...
