Nice of you to post it up to alert people and nice to see a firm offering a range of apprenticeships but it makes me wonder why a company has to make a large banner and advertise in such a way.
When I was leaving school I spent two weeks knocking on doors looking for an apprenticeship as did most of my mates at the time, it paid off for me and I got a good career out of it.
Today there are many genuine young un's wanting and looking for work , however there are far too many (possibly close to the majority) sitting on their play stations waiting to be invited or forced to apply.
A firm like that should be pestered daily and have a cabinet full of CV's from keen youngsters wanting to work for a living.

I wonder why that is?
Especially when you see on TV all the youngsters stating they would love to find work and have applied for loads of work.
Perhaps it's a case of not suitable rather than not available numbers, I know when I used to interview for the yearly apprentice intake some of those that turned up were a disgrace in their turnout and also in their preparation for an interview, showing little interest and zero knowledge of the company or what they were applying for.
Why do you want an apprenticeship? Errrrr, well errrrrrr... I wanna git a car like wot me mates got.

Probably because most young 'uns would rather go to uni and lead the party lifestyle for 4 years because that is what their friends have done and its what schools seem to sell to kids of leaving age as the be all and end all.
I suspect most of this stems from the mid 90's onwards and the New Labour idea that they wanted more and more people to go to university. (I think they had a target figure, but I cant remember what it was off the top of my head - 50%??).
Most of the polytechnics etc were all granted university status and the apprenticeship fell out of favour. The country obviously needs university educated people, but there should also be a traditional apprenticeship route for people who are not that way inclined. (I went the apprentice route and wouldn't have changed it for the world)

I think some of these "young uns" know no better, as they have never had to work while they were growing up.
Once they do start to do a bit and find out that work can be rewarding they can turn into good lads.
I work with apprentices and it is interesting to watch them turn from pot smoking smart arses into good workers, some stay as smart arses, some still smoke, but once qualified if they don't work it's back to the x-box!

Great to see apprenticeships coming back, I got all my tickets C and Gs ONC through evening classes, 3 nights a week 7 to 9 /9.30 long old days and spent 14 years at a Hire Education College in the welding shop, over 25 years ago now but they have just more or less closed down our local workshops down due to some kind of jiggery pokery going on with financial cheating.
My time was great at college and I was proud to have helped to see boys make them selves into really skilled tradesmen, starting at 17 years having never ever worked before, we were lucky to have been doing jobs as school boys hay making, picking spuds, forestry work, gardening you name it, and do'nt forget if youngsters are no good it's the parents fault, nobody else.
I have 10 Grand Children ALL perfect, even the 4 Great Grand children and hate to see the young generation being condemned all the time, after all there's not much shape on our leadership either, the youngsters are lucky to be as good as they are. desmo11225

I'm currently doing an apprenticeship and as far as I can tell they're getting more and more popular, apparently there was something like 600 applications for around 50 places this year so definitely not lacking in people wanting to do one down this way

There are definitely hard working lads out there, I know as my son is one! In his second year as an apprentice Welder/Fabricator, working 11 hour days and loving it.

Trouble is most kids nowadays don't want a job where you end up minging, covered in little burns and hands like rhino skin. Plus the way things were have shifted. To be a tradesman used to mean you were considered as top of the tree, now office bods look down on us
90% of my work is office based, but I do enjoy it when I get my hands dirty

office bods or anyone else dont look down on me . they cant do my job and i work for them . and thats only if i like them or they havent got attitude or there miserable
A lot of "apprenticeships" today bear little relation to those of old, how can you learn a trade in one or two years that used to take five?
Also the general level of skill that young people arrive at college with is woefully poor. A level or equivalent courses where students have never held a file or hacksaw & have to be taught basic hand skills & tech drawing from scratch. Compared to what we used to do at school in the 1970's its frankly pathetic.

I think if you read between the lines, the company nakes signs such as this as a large part of their work, maybe they are giving an example of what the apprentices would have to make ?
