Surprisingly good, I’ve watched the first 6 episodes . Can’t say the same for The English though

Enjoyed, apart from the slightly shoe-horned-in love interest (which wasn’t interesting). Would like to see the series continue to Borneo, perhaps N Ireland, Argentina and the Embassy siege.

I tend to avoid these programs, when you live in area where there are plenty of regiment/ex regiment people around you tend hear how much nonsense is in these shows.
We all know the celebrity "Ex regiment" people, many of them are universally disliked by serving members.

From what I've read around the beginnings of the regiment it wasn't too far off the mark.
Obviously some drama has been added to appeal to a wider audience but that's the nature of TV.
Absolutely, it's all about the ratings and I am totally fine with that and I know with a lot of it they actually tone it down. Talking to friends locally generally when TV shows selection process stuff it is nowhere near as bad as real life.
I'm glad we have one of most elite forces in the world and many of these people are involved in stuff that most of us don't even want to think actually happens in the real world.
The one thing that I've heard loads of times is "If someone you've just met tells you they are in/were in the regiment then it's 99% certain there weren't"
We know a regiment wife who works in an environment where she came into contact with wannabes and often had to listen to people telling her they were regiment.

If you want to read a good book about the North Africa campaign, read Popski’s Private Army by Vladimir Peniakoff DSO,MC. I’m just rereading it having first read it 50 years ago, after watching SAS Rogue Heroes.

I have the Ben Macintyre book on which (I presume) it was based, although I haven't watched it.
If even half of what was recorded in the War Diaries is true, it's still mind-boggling.
Bet you'd struggle to get the youth of today (as many of the lads were barely into their 20s) to cope with, or even attempt a fraction of what Stirling and co. did.

Mention fan dancing, was the way I was told to check... by an ex-Para CSM, a Welshman by the name of Brian Larner who not only sounded like Windsor Davies but mostly resembled him as well
