Anyone versed in oven installations (sizes)?

Just looking at getting a new oven, overdue about 10 years.

The current one is 600w x 600h, if I want to fit a 700h model is it just a case of swapping or modifying the housing unit? Or is there anything else (clearances etc.) to consider?

Currently like this, the 100mm is there but it’s blanked off

As long as you have 700mm or more from the base of unit to the underside of the w/top it shouldn't be a problem , the taller ovens usually referred to as built under rather than built in/ integrated often don't even sit in a cabinet and you may have to remove it . they often just slide in on two h/d metal angel brackets with fillers either side you can always cut the front edges of the removed cabinet if needs be hope that all makes sense . Couldn't give a 100% answer without seeing the actual kitchen in the flesh.

when i swaped mine out a few years ago as above i had to remove the wood carcuss and install 2 metal runners at my last house

this house ive got a 2 oven but that one is a floor standing one has 4 feet that you screwup to the right hight then screw the cooker to both either sides of the cooker to secure

just remove that bottem fake drawer should fit what you want but you might need a packing piece as oven inserts are placed on packing units

Standard units are 720 high. So 684 internal

Would assume that's the outer frame size and the internals will fit under the top rail.

Here’s the ugly little fella.

The whole kitchen needs doing, wife has been informed it isn’t happening until such a time as she can take the kids on holiday for a fortnight, but can’t say no to a new oven. Up to her to decide whether it’s a bigger oven or storage below, might as well turn that blank into a drawer while I’m messing about.

Beware there are 2 types... one goes in a carcass... 560 wide, the other between... 600 wide ... fitting space

Yeah. Customer caught me out with that earlier this year.
I'd told her to make sure it was a built in not a built under.

Oven turned up and I had to remove the unit I'd fitted in the gap.


Put an under worktop freezer in a tower cabinet last job.

Fixed the shelf in at 720. Then trimmed 3/4 through with the tracksaw just below . End panels both sides leveled and screwed in place with the other units before multitooling out the other 1/4 and removing the bottom.

Lot of effort just for a freezer.

Beware though not all carcases are 720 over the years I've seen range from 700 to 730 more on the flat packs and at present I know theres a difference betweem magnets and howdens .

Wickes is 730 iirc. IKEA. Who knows. I don't care. Won't fit em anymore.

Standard is 720 though

I won't do howdens no more had a big fall out on job , and ikea total pain as no cavity at the back of units everything had to in the wall or on the floor, well that was on the last on I did .They may have changed now though .

Does that oven door by any chance drop down to reveal a grill at the top as well as the oven in there?

Using my grill is a genuine pain in the shins. I've lost count of the number of times I have walked in to the oven door while I have been grilling food. Really bad idea in my opinion. I suppose it depends on how spacious a kitchen is.

Yeah it does, it’s a galley kitchen too. Hoping to find a suitable double to reduce injuries.

Plenty of options online for made to order. Usually refirm 3 or 4 kitchens a year with new worktops and doors

its not just wickes that are like that

but you can still get them

kitchens 10 year guarantee dosnt make any difference as the companys are more interested in changing designs and shapes of drawer and cupboard packs

there policy is you replace the lot

Can thoroughly recommend the Smeg. We needed a double oven but due to energy ratings and the thickness of insulation built into the cheaper ones the oven cavities were tiny. Also the majority of cheaper ones we looked at either had plastic knobs or gimmicky pop in and out ones that looked prone to premature failure )

Both ovens have a wide range of settings for cooking different things. The doors easily remove for cleaning (when i get round to it )
Not the cheapest but you won’t be disappointed

Don't talk to me about Smeg

We had 3 £2000 Smeg ranges delivered. First one a rhombus thanks to the delivery drivers. And all of them with a manufacturing fault causing a dimple through the SS legs. Replaced by an engineer on site eventually.

The extractor was beyond a joke

Microwave was ok though.
