did you just call the local depot and set up an account ... i assume you mentioned the volkzone discount ..

If they do not know about it, like my branch, then get them to call HQ as above. All gets done there and then.

The agents often don't know about the Volkszone deal. The BOC shop on the actual head office site in Worsley didn't know about it and had to ring through to check.

Best thing is to set it up over the phone first. Only takes 5 mins. I must admit I haven't cracked on with my resto like I should have, so I am kind of paying rental for nothing, but I still think overall it is worth it for the convenience of having loads of gas there when I need it.

As I've mentioned before: I set up my VZ account by calling the BOC 0800 number and making the arrangements directly with Head office. They then faxed the paperwork through to my local depot, a couple of miles away, for me to sign. That was very fortunate as none of the staff I spoke to there knew what I was talking about.

I use hobbyweld for o2 as I only use a bottle a year at the most...

Rough calculations seem to show that if you go through one bottle of rent free gas per year (which is quite easy as they don't fill them much, unlike BOC) then you're about even to the Volkzone offer from BOC. Refills from BOC are so cheap and you get so much gas in them.

As far as I understand it, BOC refund the balance of the rental if you return the bottle early, so unless you are a very light, infrequent, user (or BOC are not conveniently located), as Bill says, it's hard to match the VZ offer. We did the calculations at the time (over a year ago) and the VZ offer was far cheaper per litre, even including rental.

Went into the depot in Deer Park Road, SW19 this morning. It took about half an hour to set up an account and get head office to set up the Volkzone prices for my account. The staff there had not heard of the offer but were very helpful and I left with my bottle.
