Now if I remove everything up to trieben:
it is good to reduce the feed, since the quantity of material to be milled is just as much as the number of teeth is reduced.
So it's the word trieben that has google translate stumped. I think it should read splines, or sprockets, or possibly pinions but Google translates it to 'shoots'.

Have just had a quick look on the internet and it does look like it has quite a few different meanings
drive, desire, urge, inclination, instinct; shoot, newly grown plant stem; transmission of power to machinery
drive, impel forward, propel, push; do, make, create; sprout, burst forth; float, stay on the surface of a liquid

Trieben is plural, trieb is singular, eg https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei...rmuhr_Museum_Industriekultur_Nuernberg_de.jpg
She says the original sentence doesn't make much sense, even in German! Her translation of it goes "When milling pinions, it is best to lower the feed motion due to the quantity of the material to be milled is just as much larger as the number of cogs/teeth reduces."

When I worked for a German owned company we had to get one of the parent company engineers to translate some machine manuals to English, apparently there is a "technical German" which is different to "conversational German".
