I mashed the thumb nail of my right hand whilst trying to hit a suspension joint I couldn’t see with a bfh.
It came off after about a week and it was nearly 3 years before it was back to normal, mainly because I kept snagging it on things and ripping it back.
Worst time was when it was about 85% regrown and I caught it on the edge of a seatbelt as I was settling down into a long haul flight. The blood was quite spectacular and I for one was was not impressed at all.

You don't realise how much you depend on your hands until you damage one. Some really simple everyday tasks take on a whole new light when done with your non dominant hand, things like wiping and tooth brushing.
