anyone recycle furniture-PAINT question?

got some old fashioned dark wood furniture , some real wood , other is veneer etc , nothing too fancy

i mentioned before paying out for more chipboard rubbish i might as well try a coat of the latest fashion colour paint over it see if we like it

wondered if anyone on here does that , what primer/paint do i i need ? just want something satin not going for the aged crinkle effect

I don't think you can recycle furniture paint. Once it's gone off it's very hard to re-use

We have had some done previously, French Chic is the best paint

im not a fan realy but some look nice the best ones i would say solid wood top sanded clear coated and the bottem painted

but do inside and out nothing worse then looks good then you open a drawer and its original wood colour inside


or do what some people do and wait untill dark wood comes in fashion again and your hip again

There a chap near me who recycles that kind of old brown furniture for a living, I brought a couple of wardrobes of him.
I don’t know what paint he uses but I know it’s all sprayed, it’s a good quality satin finish much better than the usual hand painted shabby style you often see

Remove any wax, silicon sprays, key it well. Very well. Then test and paint away.

I've got a large'ish Welsh dresser stored in my workshop coz she wanted to try the paint system out...
Paint is inside the cupboard....
It's only been there for nearly 6 years..hahaha..

A mate of mine is a cabinet maker & restorer, a few years back he had a small victorian mahogany side cupboard, A woman enquired the price & when told walked away. It was very tatty so as intended he french polished it & it looked fantastic. , few days later somebody else buys it. A week later it is in the window of the first womans shop covered in crappy chalk paint at an inflated price.
He said "If i had known she was going to do that i wouldnt have bothered!".

I used to make and restore furniture. Thankfully never got involved with painting it though.

You do have make a good job of removing any wax and previous finishes though.

It all depends on what sort of finish you are after. Smooth and contemporary, or old and rustic. I THINK most new stuff is sprayed with Acrylic, as it chips quite easily.

There is a company called Mylands, they supply all the finishes you could want. Have/had a good website too. They would be the best ones to advise
