Anyone recommend a mini air sander?

If you haven't already got one I find a power file the most useful tool for dressing welds.

I've got a CP grinder like the one in your link. It's a great bit of kit that gets a lot of use.

ive got the mac tools twist lock sander like the one you posted and its a handy bit of kit. you can get scotchbrite discs for them which is nice. I only ever use the 50mm discs as I cant see a need for the 70mm as you don't really use it flat on what your grinding.

I get the consumables off ebay from china although I did have a nice big box of wurth stuff but the price was mega.

I have a Chicago Pneumatic CP7200D 50 & 75mm random orbital sander kit that I've been impressed with for paintwork sanding, very frugal on air and controllable. The CP7202 is the non orbital sander version and would be my choice but looks like the Roloc backing pad is only 75mm.

Thanks guys, went for the Kobe one, a couple of Roloc disc holders and a PCL XF fitting. So much for trying to save some extra cash.

Where's the best place to get the Roloc style discs?

Yes, the one you have ordered is orbital like my CP and won't sand welds back.

Well it's been an expensive morning, ordered the Sealey SA720 mini sander kit. Going by the specs it uses less air to run.

Not really, it's an easy mistake when the different types are named "sander". The one I have when you look at the parts diagram can have 3 different head types on the same body, a random orbital for sanding CP7200, an epicyclic 2500rpm reduction for polishing CP7201 and a fixed head for grinding/sanding CP7202. The box on the one you ordered looks identical to my kit but the sander is different with a two finger trigger however I have noticed that Googling CP7200 or CP7202 brings up ones like mine with a single finger trigger and two finger like the one you have ordered with CP cast into the body.

This link (takes a while to load) has detailed photos of the FOS003mk you ordered and I'm 99% certain that they are made by the same manufacturer. The hook & loop backing pads are identical to mine and look like they have a 1/4"UNC male thread so the M6 Rolocs you ordered would need modifying to fit.

That Sealey again looks identical to your sander with badge engineering, you need a matching pair of Burdekin badges now! Might have been an expensive mistake but you will find the random orbital useful and a really nice tool if it's like my CP, really frugal on air too unlike the cheap die grinders and air 75mm air cutoff tools. I'm interested to see how you get on with the Sealey regards metal removal and how it performs as I was so impressed with my orbital I looked at buying the CP7202 fixed head sander as well for detail work but couldn't justify the outlay at the time.

Thanks for the info. Yeah some Burdekin badges would look great. I have the one you sent on my English wheel. I’m sure I’ll use the orbital sander so not all is lost.

This is a sander that takes Roloc style discs:-

I use 50mm and 75mm discs in 36, 80 and 120 grit.

You can also buy surface finishing discs. I use medium and fine:-

The system makes it very easy to clean up a weld and make them disappear. I'd be lost without it.

If you want to go one step further, I then use a 75mm DA and go over the surface.
