I have started with various gentle abrasives like non-woven pads on an air sander, and nylon bristle brushes which are OK on the large areas but not great for the fiddly fins. I don't want to attack it with a wire brush for fear of getting little ferrous flecks stuck in, and any hard sanding will just go though the high spots. If only brass brushes for angle grinders were a thing. At least, I haven't found any.
Perhaps there's someone local willing to blast the paint and corrosion off so I can repaint them, and then I can see another member's set up in case it seems feasible to do my own blasting in the future...?
