Found this at a flea market and trying to find out what it’s for..it looks like it plugs into a welder before the lead..does it up the amps on a small welder to perform bigger jobs maybe? Reminds me of a homemade step up transformer..

My guess is that it's a choke. It smooths the power delivery, to put it in very basic terms.

Probably just to smooth out an AC buzz box type welder? doubt very much it would do anything for the output given that its only inline with 1 of the leads...

It's only in line with one lead until the circuit is completed
Being an inductor, it will prevent a sudden high current pulse when the circuit is made, giving a more controllable arc.

thats what i mean, given its only inline with 1 lead it can only smooth out the arc and not increase the output as mentioned in the original post

My guess is its for a mig and goes onto the earth lead.

Are there contacts in there? I wondered if the coil operated contacts to make a heath robinson sort of pulse for welding vertical or thin gear.

Without a mug for scale, this is complete speculation

I suspect the windings are strands of the flexible cable, but no idea how it's insulated. If not, their layer winding sucks.

Well there is no contacts and I don’t see a spark plug so I guess I’m gonna have to plug it in to my old buzz bow welder and throw the switch and see what happens…so if the power goes out on the east coast I guess you will know why…lol

Hi,

It's specifically a Creusen DS 8200T 230v, a Dutch made machine and an old one.

It's been adapted so not all is original to the machine and a lot of parts missing

The thinking being, the odd attachment is for drill sharpening.

How do I know this,--I didn't but got curious, Creusen however did.

It's got a gurt long air cylinder, and a spark plug stuck in it....
How can it sharpen a drill bit?
