Anyone know old AEC engines?

Leyland, the 500 series. Never popular and Leyland had built a new factory to produce it. Dedicated machine lines that couldn't be used for anything else, so they struggled on with it for about 10 years, finally cleared out and the ancient machinery from AEC installed so they could make the L12.

I follow these on youtube, they have a few routemasters, and tend to do all their own repairs, and seem to know where to acquire the spares needed to keep the buses going.

Having been involved in modifying a routemaster engine to fit an AEC regent V , I have asked my bus garage friends at GVVT in Glasgow and Angus Transport Group for their thoughts . As they have a fair few AEC of various flavours . Initial feedback is the AV505 may be underpowered .

Seems similar power and torque but less cc, mind you I would not be hauling 72 friends around, don't have that many, most you can take without a PSV licence is 8, that's more like it!

I've often woken up to an ebay purchase receipt or a PM on here from the for-sale section, thinking "...too much wine?" but that really takes the biscuit

My wife would be ecstatic!

I suggested buying a Routemaster years ago, late 90's early 00's when LT were selling them off fairly cheaply. My wife thought this was "not a good idea". She thought the same some years later when I suggested that a Green Goddess fire engine might be a good buy.

Funny enough I was told the same when a green goddess came up for sale last year here.

My main reasoning was a ‘Kin gurt pump. But that wasn’t enough to sway opinion
