Have cheap ebay one on camper van but so I dont run over anyone when reversing as its totally blind behind. It uses a sending camera and a wireless link to a box that transmits to a box that goes on the front screen bit too, as I didn't fancy ripping out my interior to run a cable the whole length up to the dash. Its ok. It doesnt get as good a view as a second one mounted up high on the luggage rack, but its only for backing up safety, the second cam is a high def unit that needs a computer used for other purposes. The screen fits in place of the rearview mirror and is smaller than one. You can get screens that totally replace the rearview mirror if its redundant and you still have the stem.
Mrs car (2014 clio) came with a media nav screen but no camera as it was a 500e extra and not ordered by the original buyer (hertz), so we added one and reflashed it to enable the inbuilt camera option. On that, the camera fits in place of one of the numberplate lights.
Never fitted a blindspot cam though, I drive rhd 90 and sprinter van in a lhd country and always seem to manage with a bit of road positioning, as you do currently. I just indicate clearly and if someone ignores that and tries to jam their ecobox into some implausible space, they'll have a few ton of landrover parked on them.
