Anyone into RC transmitters.

I purchased bait boat and it came with old 40 meg radio gear.

The boat is sealed so short term its not easy to switch to 2.4ghz and I am currently trying to find out if I can grab a cheap Futaba T4yf as they are quite old now.

It would also be great to know what alternatives I could look for either futaba or another brand that are equivalent.

It's quite confusing as it appears the futabaT4yf I have might be 35mghz with 40 meg crystals fitted as I can only see reference to 35mghz and the latest 2.4ghz.
Googling seems to find some saying yes it works and others saying no it won't.

Yes but to get into the boat is a massive task.
I am looking for a cheap quick fix. I will fit a 2.4 over the winter.

Yes I have the old transmitter and crystal. I have checked the boat and crystal on another transmitter (identical) and it works fine.
It's a 4 channel.
I have loads of 40 meg car transmitters from.our racing days. But they are only 2 channel.

Not sure mate. It's got 4 motors and 2 hoppers so I think all 4 are used to be honest.

I assume one channel for steering, one for foward and reverse and one for each hopper. So needs all four. If you can find a 40mhz transmitter with more channels this should work just by using the first four channels

Some of the futaba transmitters like the one I posted a link to earlier use a module to set the operating frequency. The module that is included in that one could possibly be used with a different transmitter with more channels.

You can still use 27, 35 and 40mhz, but more modern radio systems can do a lot more than before. Once a receiver is bound to a transmitter it won’t accept signals from other transmitters so less likely to be the cause of a crash, now it’s down to driver/pilot error as long as it’s in range. Telemetry can be available on some systems so signal strength, receiver battery voltage, main battery voltage, current draw, altitude and temperature sensor plus others are available. This information can be then used either as a visual reference on a transmitter display or used to provide a warning alarm if something is exceeding limits and allow the model to be recovered in one piece hopefully

That's only for 2.4 the others rely on crystals and will be affected if two transmitters are used at the same time on the same frequency.

I have been lucky enough to pick up a brand new 2.4 sytem which needs the boat taken apart to fit it.
But I also have a 40 meg transmitter coming which will mean I can use the boat this year and fit the 2.4 in the winter.
