My Mothers conservatory is being replaced under insurance because of subsidence, no problem there, it's all agreed and the base is laid etc.
The problem is that the original conservatory was a high quality aluminium frame and the insurance companies contractor is trying to say that it is now impossible to obtain aluminium frame types ! She does not want UPVC or wood. So. whats the truth, are aluminium conservatories still available ?
still available afaik, but I dont think I have even seen one for 10-15 years so may be difficult to match or even get these days, and it will cost mega bucks.
I had a similar problem when 2 hardwood double glazed windows (and 2 doors) were damaged during a break-in. The insurance company said brown UPVC would be better (and cheaper), I asked if they would match the other 5 windows? - NO.
In the end they paid to have them custom built & installed, cost the best part of £4K!
p.s. the installers then hung the front door the wrong way (could not get to light switches & alarm keypad) they had to come back with another door & frame.
