Anyone here thats good at repairing speedometers?

So with my long running project I thought about time I took a look at the next bits to sort out.
So this old speedo has a couple of issues the biggest are the two splits in the frame. You can see one at the base of the drive shaft. and I think the needle is stuck.
So if anyone is into this stuff please let me know

I've used Speedy Cables in the past and been happy. Last stuff from them were the custom gauges for wifey's Pop (Smiths, which they own) which are great.

there's quite a few repairers in the US and are extremly good.......
no idea in the UK....
wont be cheap tho.....

I wanted a speedo for a 1930's Indian......found a damaged one in the US...the price for a rebuild....
new glass n bezal plus, hand painted numbers ....show quality, like new started at $800......
6 month waiting list........it was the tape type....

I wouldn't know where to start on that, better someone who has experience takes a look at it.

They aren't complicated but very delicate.

A spring and a clutch normal on the cable driven units.

One drop of oil in the wrong place can kill them.

We use Speedy Cables for cables and they are good to deal with so if they do speedo's then I'd send it there personally .

I've stripped and rebuilt some old smiths cbroninetrics before. They aren't as complicated as you'd think.
Not hard to take that apart, clean and check everything, and reassemble.

The issue is getting, or making any parts it needs and the broken frame.

That broken frame, I believe, is going to be a big issue.

I used to repair/restore old chronometric Speedos for a hobby. If you're attempting DIY, let me know if there's anything specific you're after. I still have a stack of bits/spares.

I'm only really familiar with Smith's ones but presuming a Jaegar doesn't contain anything truly bonkers, a simple strip, clean and relubricate is not beyond most of the skills I see most people here exhibit every day.

One tip. Keep spirits/solvents/oils away from the dial face!

Gareth. I think its beyond my skill set just to dismantle it. Let alone put the parts back together in the right way..

If I was undertaking that my self I'd first see if a better example can be sourced for spares or repair. If not I'd start with a strip clean and evaluate. The face looks as though it has some oil staining which might be tricky to lift.

The frame could be a zinc alloy casting - might be difficult to repair. I'd 3D scan, reverse engineer with a view to getting re-made in aluminium. Sounds extreme and it is - I'd get a limited run made and sell the spares on to recoup the investment. Of course someone may already have done that in which case replacement frames may be available. Vehicle owners clubs will probably have that knowledge.

Oh, I've just seen the cracked fram you mentioned. That looks like robbing parts from another speedo job. Which should be pretty easy for someone that does them. Innerds tend to be more vulnerable than the frames so hopefully a frame will be easy enough to find.

Can't recommend any of those mentioned, though I did go to school when Dr Flannery taught coincidentally.
