Anyone got any ideas on how I should solder this?

Hi,
I have an AA battery box similar to this except mine is for 2 AA's only. http://www.mutr.co.uk/images/DSCN0247.jpg

It's got this connector at one end and this at the other


I want to run the two batteries in the box in a parallel config rather than serial. ie. Maintain 1.5v and double capacity. I want to solder 16 awg wire to each end with bullet connectors on the other end.

I'm not sure what the best way to go about this is but I need to be careful as the plastic will lose it's shape when applying heat.

Any ideas? Thanks.

is it not set up for 4 batts? make sure your iron is up around 400C and the solder will flow very quick, but i dont thinc its the box for you tbh

Use a low melting point solder.

However, you may find the connectors are plated and won't solder anyway.

I don't think you'll find one that connects the batteries in parallel, it's not a Good Thing. Could you use a D or C cell instead?

I want to make use of loads of aa's I have at home.

Unless they are perfectly matched one can force current into the other, this would at best give reduced output, at worst damage one of the cells.

Perfectly matched in what sense? - they are both the same manufacturer and have the same capacity rating.

Of course like anything else batteries arent perfect. There both rated at 2700. One is about 25** and the other is about 2300 or something though.


A serial box would be fine by the way as I just have to connect the wires to each end rather than black and red and the same end.

Yeah I could get that actually. I can swap it from the double one I have (also bought in Maplin).

I would still have the same soldering problem though!

The single holder is fitted with solder tags so there should be no problem.

If you attempt to solder that , you'll just melt the plastic.

Get some of the push on connectors, the type the go on the pp3 9v batteries and parrellel them like that.

Shouldn't be a problem. paralleled batteries are used all the time. Fork lift trucks etc etc
