Anyone ever used...

...a speed brace? Was rummaging about in the garage yesterday and came across a tub with larger spanners and tools etc that dont get used very often. In there was an as new Britool speed brace(originally came from a socket set i got when i started my apprenticeship in 1990), and a draper expert one i got in a set a few years later iirc although this has started to rust in places.

Dont think either of them have been used in anger. Do new socket sets still have them/can you still get them/anyone use one regularly? Ive never felt the need.

I have used one now and then, perhaps once a year at the very most.

Cordless impact wrench does most of it nowadays i think.

It's something I use fairly often for case screws on bikes. It gives speed with feel !

Crank case on scooter , I used the speed brace just yesterday to nip the nuts on the studs. 16 of them and then torque them down as they are only just over finger tight.

I've got a couple (one is for hex rather than square sockets and dates from 1950's) but haven't used them for maybe 20 years.
IMO they went out of fashion when lock nuts became more common compared to plain nut and lock washer. With plain nut after you have broken the initial locking of the washer the nut will spin off easilly with speed brace. However with lock nuts they bind all the way off the thread so speed brace is difficult / hard work compared to a ratchet.

Not used mines for years, used to be good for removing spark plugs from BMC A and B series engines (minis/1800 etc)

Well ive only got two at my disposal...would you recommend the Britool or Draper for said task? Dont know if i could wield one in each hand without some sort of formal training.

If im running nuts/bolts on/off ive always found a ratchet with extension spun with a finger the fastest manual way. Maybe i should try a brace, just seems more cumbersome somehow...if that makes sense?
