Anyone cleaned the buttons on some mitutoyo digital verniers?

I have a set of these that are actually brand new, but (literally) years old.

They've just sat in their case for an age.

I powered them up last night, and the origin button on them does not work.


Now its likely to just be a carbon contact button which could be easily cleaned, but there's surprisingly little on the interweb about it... hence my question!

I had exactly that problem a few weeks ago, it always switched on showing 229mm but found if you "worked" the button using something with a rounded point e.g. a biro I got it to work.

Dismantle and give it a blast with contact cleaner.
