Anyone bought an ex gas compressor van (iveco daily)?

Looking for a bigger van again and there's quite a few ex-cadent compressor iveco daily vans about. Some with low mileage look decent condition for a lot less than the same transit or other. They generally have full racking and a compressor, and a lot have just one passenger seat. Just wondered how straightforward it would be to get rid of everything and convert back to a standard panel van or if there's any reason you couldn't?

Dont be fooled by the low mileage bit, these things are normally sat at the side of the road all day running the pto equipment or keeping the guys warm.Not sure how you would equate the hours run into mileage.

I agree. A friend of mine used to work for 'the world's favourite airline' in their MT dept and they had a couple of Iveco vans which spent their time wandering around the apron at 20mph or parked on stand with the engine idling all day. They had to go from Gatwick to Shoreham for an MOT, they never made it there and back, it got so they ended up trailering them down.

Depends who's system is fitted, but ultimately they're usually a driveline PTO system, and the biggest cost of putting it back to standard would be getting an original size prop-shaft, which you'll probably have to buy a new genuine one as there will be lots of people competing for any secondhand ones that might be available.

However, what @8ob says is very valid.
Usually Cadent only get rid of their specialist vehicles when they reach the point they become uneconomical to maintain, as they're owned vehicles (not leased), and aren't simply replaced at a fixed age.
