is it worth upgrading anything there ..youtube suggests higher voltage is an upgrade ?

the ones ive been pricing are low esr /low impendence , is that correct for a tv?

just ebay the board number there are brand new boards on there for 56 quid and probably some used ones cheaper plus capacitor kits for said board

it had randomly turned off a few times but came straight back on ...we had wondered if it was a neibours remote interfering with ours , but then the last couple of nights its gone off twice and wouldnt turn back on for 20 mins

That sounds indicative of dry joints rather than caps. Has the set usually been on for a while before it starts playing silly buggers?

Either standard or low ESR are fine. I'd just go for the cheapest. As long as they're 105 degree caps, they'll be peachy. Voltage wise, either/either. Somone like Samsung will probably have rated their caps decently, but there are a lot of companies who cut it close to the knuckle, so going one step up on voltage, (i.e: 16V in place of 10V, 35V in place of 25V etc.), will do no harm. The problem you may encounter then though is physical size, so check the dimensions of any replacement caps and make sure they'll physically fit.

Main places to check for dry joints are components on the primary side, transformers and anything which is bolted to a heatsink. Resolder those even if they look fine. You can sometimes have connections which look perfect but may be iffy due to oxidised pins or hairline cracks.

I have an LG TV that i got for free, replaces 6 caps on the PSU for a few pence each and its been right as rain. THey wont always look Swolen.

You needthe change them for the correct Farad value, the Valtage need not be the same but should not be lower. e.g. if you have 16v caps you can replace then with 25v rated caps

one thing the 680uf 25v was physicly smaller than the original part , i fitted it and then decided i would fit the spare 680uf 35v that came with my order that matches the old parts

would the fact the part was smaller mean its not good enough or what

If the value is correct, it is a low ESR type and the voltage is the same or higher, it will be fine.

okay thanks seems ive done some good but not enough

so far its turned off once but came straight back on with no action from me , before it always needed turning on with the remote

does that point toward anything obvious

replace 7 big caps and re heated a suspect looking solder blob

a simple multi metre will test values of caps if you do an OHMs test across them, built a metal detector from scratch and ended up with a dodgy cap after soldering over 200 bluddy components on, done my head in
