Hi I'm using a sealey supermig 150/5 with a disposable co2 bottle and 0.6wire and I just can't seem to get anything like a consistant weld. I've tried its lowest setting and played around with wire speed and then on next highest setting and again played with wire speed and still the same. I didn't really want to go any higher with the settings as I'm working on an old car and didn't want to blow any more holes than I already am. I thought at first that it could be down to the fact I'm welding outside but even if I'm welding inside the car I'm getting the same results. Some weldslook great and seem to have good penetration but mostly they seem to be sitting on the surface and just pilling on top of each other or blowing through. The surfaces are good and clean, the earth clamps good and rust free and I've tried all sorts of wire speeds. Really struggling to get my head round what could be wrong. Would it be an idea to try gasless wire? Am I even able to do that with my welder? Please help point me in the right direction so I know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

If its welding nicely sometimes thats a good sign, it could be something as simple as the distance you hold your torch from the workpiece. You could try setting your machine up in a stable environment with clean steel, get a good bead running, then, when you know its all good, transfer to working on yer motor. Its also important to keep you liner as straight as possible and the shroud and tip clean. Keep practicing and Good Luck!

check the power lead inside the torch? I had similar on my sealey, took the torch apart and the nut holding the power cable on had split and was loose. replaced the nut (M5 on mine, but may be different on yours as mine is a mighty mig) and all was fine again.

my original torch has a screw on collar on the bottom. twist this off, then the front and back of the torch spilt apart. its as simple as that.

glad you found something. It still may not make the welder perfect but you should find it feels like it has a lot more power now too, with a brighter arc and a much better sound and smoother weld
