the reason why I'm asking is that I would very much like to learn tig welding.
I can use mig/stick and a plasma also *burning gear(*but not very well). currently working in a car chassis manufacturing company and I'm looking for a new job.
had enough of shifts.
I hardly do any welding now or fabricating.
I got made redundant after 24 years service and that is how I came to work for the company that I'm in now(7 years/good money though)
I'm prepared to take a pay cut just to get on days.
mininmum wage I will except is £8 hr.
anyway the question is I would like to learn tig.
how do I go about doing this.
is there anyone on here who could teach me?

You can learn TIG by buying one and playing with it until you get the hang of it (least that's what I did and I've got nowhere near your experience).

No idea what qualifications you might need to get a job in TIG or what job to aim for. Someone else on here should probably be able to help more than me on that one.

I worked in Darlington for a bit. Not quite Teeside but enjoyed it up there.

There are good courses in welding here

Tees and tyneside.

I think there's a specialist welding training centre in Stockton, but can't remember details. Ask on UKWelder, they're all Mackams, Smoggies and that...

But I realise you have to work,... ,so like Malc says, get a Tig. And find a night/saturday class at a local college. And bribe the tutor to give you extra time

You could ask advice from TWI - The Welding Institute, on 01642 210512 - M'boro. They are the real job, and should be able to point you in the best direction.
