The trade unions aren't interested as we have only just joined and won't sit in on a interview, which is ridiculous.!!

now you know why people tell unions to get stuffed when they ask for fees when they first join
a union should support new and old staff members as long as they joined when they first started within the company
then the unions wonder why new members arnt interested in them if they arnt going to support them on early employment

ACAS, I was in a very sticky situation with someone who's arrogance was beyond belief, and his morals were pretty much none existent. He did bankrupt a company owing millions to suppliers and leaving hundreds unemployed. I found that out a bit too late

I have not had a lot to do with trade unions - very/very little at all. I am just in the wrong business/trade for unions (thank god).
ACAS are OK to deal with. I would always welcome an ACAS officer's involvement with anything. If you are after a resolution to any employment issue and both sides will go for "binding arbitration" - this is the way to go. But in reality what happens - both sides semi agree to the binding bit and then renade when they don't get what they want.
Private solicitors are not good at this sort of thing - they are expensive and time consuming - plus 99 out of 100 times - your employer will have more money than the employee. All the employers solicitor has to do is "stall" - and nothing goes anywhere/ever - and the employee runs out money or the will to proceed.

What I am about to say - may not sit well with everybody reading the following.
My personal advice to anybody - who has a bad employment issue - if the relationship has broken down so badly you are spending time at home - thinking about it - researching it. This can turn out to be unhealthy in the long term.
Is "jack the job in" - "walk" - "life is too short" - "it is only a job". Get another job. You will be far happier for it - trust me on this one!
If you think as an employee you have been "wronged that bad" - go to an employment tribunal - prove you are in the right and get some money for your pain. "Constructive dismissal is when you're forced to leave your job against your will because of your employer's conduct."
The employment tribunal process has got easier and cheaper for employees to access (this is a good thing!)
