Ok thanks to @Brad93 I did not know about the reed valve removed it the valve looks ok no gaps (I had to Google this ) and all seal ok but the carb attachment to the reed looks to have a rubber seal all I can see here is just gunk see pic

the seal to the engine seamed fine as was a pig to remove had to give a little tap

It sounds like an air leak still reseal all the inlet gaskets with silicone rtv

Silicone gasket will fall apart when exposed to petrol, but it will last long enough for what you need to know.

Needs must, if that's what's available. I'd use a smear of Hylomar both sides, too.

ok update cleaned the reeds i can blow through them resealed temp with the blue rtv and left overnight

started n the morning no differance (throught id found the problem with all the gunk on there as someone has had it apart prob a long time ago but did point to there was a problem there before hump

removed the exhaust no differnace so no bloackage in there

now what next ??

still waiting for the compression tester to turn up (not convinced it will i bought a sealey one for £18 on amason every where else they seam to be £25 to 35 )

am i down to piston rings and piston yet ?

the only other thing i can think on is the extra pipe that goes to the carb from the engine im assuming a vacume pipe?breather i cant blow or suck through it from the carb to the engine that a problem ?

It won’t run right with the exhaust removed.

Two strokes need an exhaust just right to work because you get a pressure wave in the chamber that scavenges the cylinder.

To be honest youre probably a little out of your depth going any further unless you know how the timing is meant to be setup and what the clearances on the piston should be.

Take it to a two stroke specialist or scrap it. You’re gonna spend at least £100 getting a mechanic to look at it.

If you need a good mechanic look up Stink Wheels based in Essex, you won’t find a better two stroke guy than Jason.

more update the compression tester turned up its carp will not work using the lead only with the push fit parts so thats going back but did get a reading when cold its 90 psi with oil in the bore as well it goes to 100 psi not much of a jump

Ok up date on this cleaned all contacts replaced spade connectors cleaned all metal where earth still the same

So sod it as I'd did seem to have a bit more power when it first ever started I've pulled the head

there are a small amount of scoring the top piston ring was stuck as I pulled it apart I did manage to free it fairly easy as I tried to remove the ring there is lots of carp in the rings and that black dont look good looking at the bore there are Mark's in the bore but very light but there

Is this enough for a new piston and rings or can I get away with a clean up ?

The parts cost for the piston and ring set and seals is only less than 30 quid so inclined to just pays the money what to you well versed people say ?

And how to clean the carbon off the head ?

For what it's worth I once had a decrepit old Suzuki GP100 that was down on power, wasn't worth spending much money on. I fitted a set of 0.5mm oversize rings to the old piston, trimmed the end gaps correctly and put it all back together. Wasn't expecting much but it made a huge difference, it would easily do 70 after that. It was still going a year later when I sold it.

final update on the quad it has gone back to the original owner 6 weeks ago

i dont know if im happy or not but he sold it on a bloke that does this all the time after a good look and throw of fuel sees it start but not run he paid money and had a report back a week later that the engine is toast after putting a leak test on the engine he found a long thin crack down the lenth of the engine all the way from front to back

even after a jet wash the bloke could not see it it was only when you put the tester on it it showed up

dout it could have been fix by the sounds of it and at least the parts will get used on other bikes

same here i was worried hed sell it and the next bloke just put a gasket in and it would then run fine and id look like an idiot

sounds like typica quad if it runs there fun if it dosent probally best off just scrapping it the few ive fixed i wish i never bothered never worth it by the end of it
