any one know about these

i am looking to get a mig to take over from my old stick welder. will be used mostly for landrover chassis repair and some light fabrication. i have seen these on ebay one used requiring new torch SEALY MIGHTYMIG 130XT MIG WELDER 130 AMP

the other is new but lower power (only 105amps)

NEW SIP COSMO 130 MIG WELDER - GAS/GASLESS

has anyone had any experience or know anything about either of these and could give some insight into their best and worst bits, to help me make a choice.

105 amps is not enough for chassis repairs. SIP/COSMO are the nastiest hobby migs (in my opinion). I don't think you will be happy using 130 amps on a LR chassis as it will be close to its limit.

A 130 amp machine is good for approx 3.5mm but you can only weld this for a very short time with the Sealy. You will be waiting for the machine to cool down a lot. I am not sure but I think LR chassis go up to 4mm.

About 2.4mm is standard on the originals with 2mm being the replacement chassis and 3mm heavy duty. You could use the 130 mig for lighter stuff and use your Arc ( if at least 150amp) for the chassis. I have done Landys with a 130 Mig and it isn`t really up to the job as Cob. says. Try and stretch to a 160 amp which will keep you pleased for a lot longer.

Both of the machines you have quoted are OK for very light diy mig welding. I imagine that the thinnest you will be welding is approx. 1 mm and the thickest 4mm. If this is the case both of these welders will cope, but they have very low duty cycles. They probably have alluminium wound transformers, but don't quote me. Alluminium wound transformers are less efficient and do not have the life span or duty cycly capabilities of the copper wound. A duty cycle is the only way to judge the quality/capability of any welding equipment. It is the number of minutes within a 10 minute cycle at a percentage of maximum output a welder (or other welding equipment) will operate for before overheating cut out. e.g 60% at 100 amp will enable you to weld at 100 amps for 6 continuous minutes out of every ten. I suggest you research your choice before purchase. Please contact me for any further advice.

All transformers are aluminium wound in the lighter duty machines (including the more professional Migatronic sets) and duty cycle is not really a consideration at that end of the market.
I'd be inclined to opt for the Sealey from those two Calvin, and would seriously consider a Clarke machine (130/150amps+).
