Static phase converters don't balance the phases which can damage motors.

thats why they have a rook of caps i think...thats my understanding anyway

There are normally 2 banks of caps, one bank creates an artificial phase and the other creates an offset to get the motor spinning.

if the capacitors are right for a 5HP motor could they cause a 2 HP motor to overheat?

my converter has a voltage selector switch from 1 to no 5 and a voltage meter whatever size motor u run u turn the knob till u get the correct voltage which is 415 volt if its higher it can knack the motor i run mine for a bridgport mill and my scrap cable stripper motor

I have a motor I have fitted to a sander and I am not sure how to wire it. Connecting the two outsideView attachment 63327 connections gets it going but the wrong way. If I reverse those leads it still does the same way. There is another connector in the middle but I have pushed my luck far enough today and already knackered a 3 phase motor up...

If they are the end of the windings with the other two connected together it either means I have live and neutral across one winding and the other two winding doing nothing..or (oooopps might have spotted it) they are actually connected in series. I expected them to be connected in parallel and the centrifugal switch taking one winding out of the equation after it gets up to speed??

Is that correct voltage under load?? As all my 3 phase motors are 415 regardless of size.

just run the motor there all 415 v but using various hp size motors on the converter and its output voltage will vary till u tune it in with the selector switch so it shows 415 v on the meter. heres mine

Mine is transwave but not like that. It has one big switch on the front but no meters.
