Any info on a lathe like this?

Hi all. I bought this lathe a while back. It's a Stanley lathe. Have any of you ever seen a lathe like it? Any idea what era it is from? It needs a bit of work but overall not too bad. Thanks in advance.

I've seen one up close, there was one at the place I collected my HLV. I didn't study it too much since I had no real interest in it but it's gotta be 2 tons at least I think. Nice sturdy looking English machine.

It looks like the 7" plain bearing lathe which they claim comes in at 18cwt.

That's not even a ton, the one I saw was well over a ton must have been the next size up.

That is very very similar to the one my father in law has, No makers name on it, all we know is it was made in the USA in 1941 from casting patterns & drawings sent out by Broadbent, finished lathes came back to the UK. As to weight it goes approx 1.5 tons.

Thanks all for your replies. Yes eLusiVeMiTe I have been on that site but couldn’t find one that looked like mine exactly. I think that Pete is a bit closer on the weight of the machine. It certainly weighs more than a ton. No Johnnybravo it was not on EBay. I live in Malta and have never seen another one like it yet. So Keith 66, how did you determine where it was made and the year it was built? Thanks again guys and I wish you all the best.

Father in law John's lathe came out of May & Bakers maintenance shop in Dagenham where it had been supplied new in WW2, It had one operator for many years & he told John the tale of how it got there. But there is no name on it that he found. John got it when he retired & the old machine shop was being demolished, cost him a fiver! (Being head of the maintenance dept may have helped a bit. I would get a photo but the shed is so cramped with junk & swarf you can barely see it!

Thanks Keith. The only way I know it is a Stanley lathe because of the badge on the headstock. It needs a few bushes and some T.L.C but otherwise it seems ok. Now I just have to learn how to use it!! All the best.

That's not the same lathe. It's an earlier model.
