any ideas on crimping this without ££££ tool

what would you do ?

Squeeze it round with mole grips & then Crimp it down with a blunt cold chisel into the internal angle of a bit of angle iron. Or form it round & solder it.

Pliers would be my tool of choice ...or my choice of tool, after very slightly taping down the wings with a small hammer and a old screwdriver ..are you putting on a ring terminal for the bolt to go through or wrapping the cable around the bolt ..I have done both ...

main cable into the crimp , couple of thin ones on a ring terminal

Squeeze in the vice, at an angle, one side at a time, so the flaps squash down and overlap. Then turn over and use a dot punch to whack a dent in the back side of it. Thats how I've done them several times. Then I solder then too.

once folded over complete the crimp with a ball bearing in a vice.

I did mine with pipe grips one side at a time, flatten one down then crush the other over it.

id have bought the one with two big screws in it to start with ,,, no crimping needed

as you didnt , pincers to get the curl on both sides started , then vise grips from the sides to cinch it into place

And even then probably best not solder it, everything vibrates to some extent.

yeah not intrested in the screw down ones , i want something that looks factory style

might get some and have a practice , not convinced i can crimp it good enough , id like the proper M shape to it , not overlapping

thats hard to do without the big crimp tool that leaves that profile , there are new style screw on ones that work like fuel line olives , a sort of chuck grip , ive not used them but ive seen them ,, are they going onto something vintage ,. you could always put some heat shrink over them , it looks tidy and factory.
