Any idea what this pump does?

I've been offered this for $50- 25 quid.

What does it do? Is it from a vehicle? Is it in fact a pump, or a compressor? And is it worth buying?

Judging by the connector it's set up as a compressor, and I would suggest it's a diaphragm type. Probably OK for an air-brush but not much else.

Its a small vac pump, probably been used for something like de-gassing resin.

I would have said compressor as it appears to have a filter on one port. I would have expected a silencer if it was a vacuum pump.

I've got one. Its a vacuum pump, its no good at blowing as there's a pressure release valve on top. I'm not sure what you'd do with it (I've never used mine) but I'd have it for that price, its well made, fairly quiet and doesn't vibrate too much.

EDIT: Judging by that quick release fitting on the output I wouldn't be supprised if the pressure release valve has been molested.

If it was a vacuum pump that quick release would be on the input. AFAIK that type of connector relies on pressure to form a tight seal so it would be no use in a vacuum system.

At the end of the day whether it's a compressor or a vacuum pump probably depends on which ports are selected for outlet and inlet.

Round here it's quite common to find old cast iron vacuum milking pumps repurposed into compressors by swapping the ports over. I have one sat in the lean-to, they are OK but not that efficient for their size as they are only rated for a slow RPM.

HA HA a compressor is a vacuum pump it must be to work ! so as said it is both, but as it is in that there photo , it would be compressor I would guess to be maybe used to feed an air fed mask, as it is oilless being a diaphragm I use one similar for that job.

Thought it looked more like a compressor, defs not a rotary though! Think I'll give it a miss, save my pennies for something worthwhile

a little diaphragm pump with blow off valve on top .I have one similar fitted with a 1/3hp motor gonna bin the pump and put motor on something else. I got it given so I wouldn't pay nothing for the one shown

Thanks for all the replies. It probably must be off a farm (as everything here seems to be at some point in its life). We have a lot of Petter and Lister engines here used for separating cream, I'm guessing it must be from some sort of milk operation. Don't think I'll buy it, low RPM motor and too much money
