Any gas safe members ?, help needed

We would like a gas fire fitted, there is a small bore pipe in the room but not live, there is a connection coming from the boiler going under the floor that I believe is to the pipe in the room. There is an isolating valve at the bottom of the boiler outlet to the under floor pipe [see pic] which can be turned 90 degrees but still no gas to the room pipe. Is there something else that should be done to get gas through. Boiler is an Ideal Mexico 2.

That pipe is the supply to the boiler. You need a registered engineer to look at it. You will need one to fit the fire anyway. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for that, we had intended getting a gas safe chap to install a new fir, balanced flue etc. Would just have liked to have had the room pipe live ready.

No, it was flattened and soldered up.

well it still may be live and can be connected back up as it must have been pressure tested for leaks. the gas man will check when fitting new fire. regs change all the time and if not fitted correctly the warranty on fire is void

Flattening and soldering copper and lead was acceptable practice years ago.

As has been said, just let the engineer sort it, open flue appliances are the most dangerous ones

at its nearest point and most accessible

most dont know if its live unless they cut through it to find out if it is or not

things that need to be done check chimney with smoke bomb if being done that way if failed you need a liner in the chimney

can the system be piped up presume the other is dead also depends on your output at the fire sometimes a small pipe is needed and sometimes not
