Anyone any actual experience of using the HVLP spray systems to spray cars?
I was looking at a thread from 2 years ago and it looked like a few people were using them then; wondered how people were getting on with them...
Ranging from £180 for an Apollo Spraymaster (made by Bambi-air in UK) to 4 or £500 for a Fuji Q3 or Q4 or 2 or 3x more for a Wagner, the mid-range ones are much cheaper than hiring a spray guy. I say cheaper with tongue in cheek, in anticipation of hearing all the 'what-if' scenarios that we can think of Yes, the spray gun fittings are non standard so we cant use our existing guns etc, and the different size nozzles are pushing £40.... and we could get a passable compressor setup for similar money and 4x the noise and footprint.
I had the guy turn on an Apollo Pro-Spray 1500-3 in my local Axminster store and it sounded like your average vacuum cleaner (he could not find the noise spec). A lot more neighbour friendly than my Aldi compressor though with its non-HVLP gun drifting paint all over my neighbours - oops (am assuming that my Aldi 2.5hp, 9.5cfm, 150psi is not suitable for feeding a HVLP gun??).
When I have the right kit, and have practiced and practiced and practiced, I have a whole car to do....
so... what do those people that have actually tried the mid-range or better systems think about them for spraying a classic? would you paint your beloved Aston? how about your Triumph?
