Any Architecs on here ?

bit of a long shot really as architects dont generally like to melt metal in their spare time but thought i would ask as i need to design a steel framed timber house

anyone have a brother sister farther or any relation or friend or neighbour who can assist and is not talking phone numbers for their services ?


or maybe we can group design it man that might turn out a mess,

I used to do structural steel detailing, don't get excited though it was only for 3 years from 89 to 92 - a very long time ago and can't remember much TBH.

50 mm box !!!! jesus l am only going up six floors does it need to be so big
and whats wrong with 3mm chipboard i can tosh some paint on to keep the rain out cant i ?

It will have to be outdoor structural paint though, the load bearing type not the cheap stuff from Screwfix

If it's just the structure then you want an engineer. For plans and layouts, at the most basic you can buy books of house plans which give you standard house layouts you can take to a builder to copy.

If you want something more bespoke that's designed around your own personal requirements then I'm afraid you will need to pay someone for the time involved in doing that. Go to the RIBA website and use their Find An Architect search to find architects local to you who can give you a quote for their services. How much work they do for you, and the cost of their service, depends on your requirements. If you want you could just ask them to provide concept layouts or to go as far as submitting planning permission, and then hand over the plans etc to your builder, or you if you're self-building. Or if you prefer they could manage the job for you on site and oversee the building work right through to handover. It's your call.

yes thats what l want, l have most of it worked out, l need the footprint to be the same as exists so that dictates size, i could draw it out but need someone to adjust all my dimensions of timbers etc to conform, happy to pay, just thought l would ask on here first, never like giving money to a stranger lol

Probably a good idea, I watched one of those Grand Designs type programmes where a guy goes into a builders merchants with his home drawn plans and they just laughed at him.

yer i better get it right, l dont want to look a plank

its more about wall thickness's and insulation and roof dimensions angles etc

its not the first "shed" i have biult, this one used 6"x2" tanerlised for the frame, 20mm exterior ply for the sheeting overlayed with waney edge larch,
its stood the test of time in all weathers, but as a shed it dident have the to conform to building regs

ah well the building may now replace the trailer since the law change on agri biuldings, i thought it was going to have to be movable, now it seems it wont be,
never simple is it

Blimey your head must be in over drive with all the research on the intricacies of trailer pulling and driving law as well as building regs and agri buildings

It's just making me sweat thinking about it all

Did a steel framed timber clad single story buildng for a landscape outfit. Plus a two story one for myself with steel framing to take the loads. I will see if I can get the pix up, PC probs in the last weeks, not sure if I can retrieve the pix from the defunked lappy.
