Any Advice on buying a Tig welder??

Does anyone have any advise on which TIG welder to buy?

I am looking for a single phase machine with water cooling and foot pedal. i will mainly be welding Aluminum so will need ac/dc. My budget is £4000 ex VAT

The three that I have been recommended so far are:

miller Dynasty 200 DX

Lorch T 220

EWM Tetrix 230

What do you all think of these choices?
How do they compare?
or can you recommend anything else?

I cant comment on the miller or ewm but my T220 is a great bit of kit and support is top notch (via Matt1978 on the forum).

All the above are excellent machines out of which my choice would be the dynasty, however I would also consider the Fronius Magicwave 220. I hope this is of help.

I was new to tig welding.
Came on here asked all the question. Done all the reading.
Ended up going for the Lorch T220 pro.
Never ever looked back.
A lot of guys said I didn't need all the bells and whistles. How wrong they were!!!!!!!
What I found is that being microprocessor controlled. Your buying the sellers years of experience.
As a new be. All I had to do was punch in the basics. Amps. Size of tungsten. A.c. or dc etc
The tig set done the rest.
That in turn left me to learn the the skill of hand eye and wire feed and foot control.

If you opp for thre lorch. I kid you not. You will not find cheaper NOR a more helpful guy then derrick at truewld in durby.
Please please say I recommend you to him as he was been a star for me.
Put his price to the test. He will beat them hands down

I have a Dynasty.
I bought it s/h from Miller UK via Elmdale, (Roger, for those that know him).
It had been on loan to Ipswich Tech for a year.

I've had it 6 years and it's never missed a beat, and although it runs on 110v, 240v or 3ph I've only ever used it from a 13a plug.
It came with a Miller foot pedal, and I use a home made water cooler with it.
It get used most days in the workshop and for the occasional site job, both TIG and MMA.
It's paid for itself many times over.

When Roger delivered it I remarked how heavy it was (for its size) and Roger's reply was, "There's no substitute for copper."


Though I've used many 3 phase workshop machines the only other inverter I've used was a Lincoln.
The chap who bought it, again from Elmdale, wanted someone to run through the bells & whistles with him.
It was a superb machine, and a quick look on the net shows an Invertec V205-TP 2 has a water cooler that mounts below the main unit.
Worth a thought.
