I picked up a set of overalls at Lidl today. They claim 'Dense weave provides UV protection' - are they just stating the obvious, or could there be something in it? They're cotton anyway and seem pretty good quality. Only £8.99 anyway.
It's common for manufacturers of outdoor clothing to state the uv protection they provide. It's not just the weave though - if you have come across Helly Hansen kit you may be familiar with the blocks of white and blue or black they put down the arms of their vests - the fabric is the same, just the colour is different. I did a 3 hour or so open sea kayak crossing down amongst the channel islands on a very hot day wearing the old style Hellies years ago and ended up with little blocks of suntan down my arms where the white bits of the fabric were!
