Anti Spatter spray or liquid question

Hi , i am new to welding but have had some practice with good results but have a question about anti spatter use. I have a jaguar XJS which i will need to weld some small plates in the floor of this car. The car is in very good condition (apart from this small rusted section) and do not want to burn the roof or door panels etc while welding with sparks etc. I am not sure if the anti spatter spray is used to reduce sparks flying or just to keep the inside of the torch clean ? I was going to cover the inside of the car with cardboard and lightly spray the cardboard near the welding section with water to dampen it. Please can any members advise me about what the spray does and the best / easy way to protect the inside of the car while welding the floor section. I have all carpet off the floor and front seats removed. This is a link of the floor section parts i need to weld in the new year. The welder i have just got is a Esab Caddy C200i. anti spatter is used to stop the little balls of spatter sticking to the job, i doubt very much you will touch the roof with spatter i never have but anything else shield with something fire blankets work well

What snooper said. Anti spatter spray is used to stop spatter from sticking to the metal around your weld and makes it easier to clean up. Cardboard would probably do the trick but i would do like you said and dampen it down and keep a squirty bottle of water handy as well. You`ll have more hassles with sparks fron your grinder when your cutting out the rust and cleaning up the welds, it will embed itself into the glass and you will never get it out. Buy a couple of cheap fire blankets, they will be the best investment you can make for welding.

I've used damp newspaper to stop spatter and grinding sparks sticking to windscreens before and it works well. I have also forgotten to use it and had to fit a new screen into a Mini after it kept ruining the wipers.

Spatter on glass been there done that.
A tip.
One that to at least save glass is a Stanley blade scraper, you know one of those things with a handle & blade at an angle at the end.
NEW BLADE & scrape the screen do not pull the scraper, this will at least save the wiper blades all the little perishers (sparks ) will come out of glass leaving only the pits,

an easier tip. cover it up with wet towel and dont ruin it in the 1st place windscreen = a few hundred quid .wiper blades =12 quid cover screen up = free
