Another what is this tool?

Just posted in the today I acquired thread this little lot that was a £4.99 ebay buy.

Anyone any idea what the tool marked Sunmaster is?

It is an aluminium alloy casting about 7mm in section.

I would guess either a chain tool or a saw tooth setter?

quick google on sun master shows the name is now use by a cnc machine tool manufacturer so wonder if it’s along those lines but older machine?

Was thinking the same, the working face has two opposite chamfers and it has a sharp edge.

sheet metal thickness guage, the round parts look like it anyway.... the numbers increasing as the sizes reduces would seem to confirm it too.

edit just reread the OP, oops no idea for that part.....

The shadow in the photo does not make it clear, but is the 'cutting edge' concave or convex?

As a punch, it would work best if concave (going inwards towards the operating handle). Think of how a rotary/wobble broach is ground.

It looks like the 'cutting edge' is one part with the handle (i.e. it has to rotate with the handle). That is not good as a punch as it would tear the material as it goes in.

The angled slot in the body is also significant. If it was merely to provide a deep throat to the device, why is it not perpendicular to the operating screw? Anything that goes into the slot has to bend once it has entered.

think right track, there is a company Sunmaster that makes awnings and sun shades - likely what it was for making holes in.
