You'd typically tack one side which will pull the piece out of square. You'd then weld the opposite side which would straighten it, and then you'd weld the side you tacked, doing this shouldn't alter anything. You'd then be able to finish the rest of it.
It takes practice to get good at it. You get to learn how to use the distortion to your advantage, and how to counter it where needed.

Make sure you're using the correct amp Common Rule | 1mm=30AMP |

Control your wire speed, it' looks like you're using too much in the picture above. & Getting nice looking welds would require some movement while welding instead of making a straight line try to make (OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) Welds, it never dissapoints.

I would disagree with that, nothing wrong with moving the torch in a straight line (making sure to push, not pull), only altering if you want to weave a second pass.

Hey we all have to start somewhere. I think he is on the right track. also very important is to prep your metal. You must clean up the areas that you are about to weld. Sand down to clean metal. Get all the impurities off your welding area. Also grind the metal (upright Portion) as to be a "fill-it". That way the weld "fills" the seam you are welding. Also turn the heat up and slow down the wire... I pull, for me it works better with Gas.

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet but I would take a saw and cross-section some of those welds to check my penetration.
