another stupid question...

Ok chaps.

I have a piece of aluminium 8mm thick and 1.5" x 4"

I need it to be a thou or two under 5/16" thick.

Whats the best way to do this?

File linish mill lathe?

Given its not very big but also not very thick (might struggle to get it in the lathe chuck et cetera)

realy depends how accurate you want it, mill or lathe ideally

Personally i would mill it, couple of parallels in the vice so the top surface is just sticking out. Then use a fly cutter over the top until the desired measurement is achieved.

All depends on how accurate and the final use, There is only 0.005" to remove. You could file it and then finish it off on a flat plate and emery paper etc,

You can get a wheel for it as far as I'm aware obviously the magnetic vice won't work

Cheers gonna see if my mate will mill it at work will only take 5 minutes.

If not i will drill the middle, stick a nut and bolt through and do it in the lathe can always file off the bit i cant get to.

Doesnt need to be majorly accurate i just dont like the idea of doing if with a file or sandpaper because i am essentially lazy.
