That out of the way ..... If I'm adding onto an installation with the old colours and I'm using the 'new' harmonised colours should I sleeve the wires to match up with old cable colours ? Eg brown wire =red sleeve
Blue wire , black sleeve ?
What do the regs say ??? Cheers guys

The regs say that all conductors should be clearly identified.

If the new coloured wires are going in the same terminals as old colours then I would sleve them.

Also you should put a sticker on your fuse box saying:

This installation or part of it contains wireing colour codes from two versions of BS7671.............

You can mix the colours into a terminal as anyone qualified to work on the installation will know what they are.

As above stick a label on the CU

Yup I'm surprised as well.... mind you my answer would to use some of my NOS old colours cable so it matches, also it then doesn't need part P as it was done before those regs came in honest guv I would never do that.....

Funny u should say that wookie , I found a bit of old cable the correct size and colours
Handy to know tho what's what tho , as I've got a couple of other little alterations to do

I know I was just being daft, hence the whistling smiley.

My uncle (who was a sparky) used to tell me over the years of various houses he'd worked on that had been done by a professional that were down right dangerous. He was happy to teach me how to do electrics safely, I've seen choc-blocs joining wires just plastered into the walls, wall mounted electric bar fires wired into a lighting circuits, nails holding floorboards down passing through cables and my favourite was a feed to a garage fuse box that had been fed from the back of cooker outlet but then upgraded to it's own cable but the live feed from the cooker had been left in the box with the bare wires just tucked to the back of the box.

I did part P when it was a new thing (I was working for a big big company who you have all heard of) and they did everything like that, so we could wire simple boilers without a sparky

Turns out to be a huge waste of time, so restricted on what I can actually do that I either need a sparky or just do it anyway

In fact I find my Mocopa more useful, I'm allowed to pull and reseal cut out fuses, even got the proper pliers I acquired in a previous job
