Another Plug question

Hello everyone new bod here

Have just bought a 150TE and after reading the instructions I am now very confussed.

The instructions say
"Connect the mains lead, through a suitably fused isolator switch, to a 230 Volt electrical supply, with a 20Amp fuse rating. A standard 13 Amp plug MUST NOT be used with these welders."

I had been thinking about fitting a round 16Amp socket fed off its own RCB or fuse box, with the welder being fitted with the plug to match.
What is with a 20Amp fused isolator switch is that over kill or not and if not where can you get them from.

Put a 13A fuse on. They're just messing with your head.
Honestly.

I used a 190A (ish) Clarke MIG for years, and it'd blow the fuse once in a blue moon, if I ran it on full power for an hour or two.

If it blows fuses a contact tip is an ideal replacement.

Mmmmm I have zapped myself more times than i care to rembber, So proberbly best to ignore any electrical advise I may spout.

You could probably get away with a 13 amp plug, I would assume you might blow fuses though.

I went for the round blue 16a plugs and proper 16a cable. I have a waterproof socket on the outside of the house run from it's own fusebox with a 15a fuse. I got all the sockets, cable etc. from B&Q for reasonables prices too.

I'd say get a proper heavy duty (blue) 16-32 amp socket fitted and beef up the RCD unit in your consumer unit, if you are thinking of running your new welder from your shed or workshop. Why take a risk for the sake of a few quid?

Fit the Blue 16A connector as you had intended, it will be fine unless you are a long way from the fuse box. Use a good size of cable. Mine is on a 16, the cable is 4mm Sq.

Thanks all, will stick with my original plan then.

Was so glad I cut my hair a few days before getting the welder as it is short enough that I couldn't have pulled it out, as that is how confussed and stressed this got me.
