Another newbie mig question

Hi.
Is it normal, when welding say 2mm mild steel to 1mm mild steel for the weld to adhere to/penetrate the thinner sheet better and to be not so good on the thicker sheet? If so, is there a way to overcome this without overly distorting the thinner sheet?

Yes. Concentrate the heat in the thicker sheet and move sharply onto the thin stuff and then back before it has time to blow through.

Also angle your torch towards the thicker material.

As has already been said. And maybe turn your power up a bit to suit concentrating your weld to the heavier material.
