Looks Plastic?? similar to the Dial Plastic range Rabone did a long time back.

but nice price, if batteries are being a pain- might solve a prob, however batteries---never had any probs, and I have four I think from a few quid Aldi to over a ton for a Tesa shopcal. O.1 mm not super accurate if you are machining.
