How hard should it be not to do this?

This drill is localish to me, but £160 seems a tad optimistic, right?

That drill is the same as the one I just bought, fairly sure it's not one of the old great British one's, it has the tin cowl same as mine.

A decent drill to use but I paid a lot less for one in much better condition, watching ebay they tend to go for less than £100 in good nick very often.

The table rack and pinion handle is smashed off as well.

Also looking at the picture with the motor to the right, there is something wrong there.

There should be a lever to lock the motor slide rod (which is there) but there also appears to be a homemade 'something' between the motor and casting, can't see any reason for anything to be there.

It's a right bodged up rough lump of kit, only 5 speed as well.

Edit: Just realised it's a home made lever for setting the belt tension, the original one must have got lost.

In my opinion way over the odds, not something i recognize as old British quality.
Totally abused, the 3 arms have been pigeon welded on, its 3 phase with a motor that might no be easy to mod for a VFD.

Just looking again look like a failed weld on the lowering handle and they have attempted to weld the rack to the spindle as well.

Why do you think that, seller was a lovely guy, even sold me the half tin of blue paint he had left in case it got scratched...only charged me £50 for the paint, £20 for a coffee and £35 for a slab of home made pie, his mate came round to lift it in the car at £100/hour or part thereof....you don't think I have been done do you?

Let me know if it needs any more welding i have some rusty mig wire and rods that got wet when a roof leaked.
I will send them up to you then you should be able to match whats already there, to keep that refurbished look.

it depends on what make the drill is. if Its a meddings with back gear and the quill the chuck and the bearings aren't worn u might be on a winner 4 the price . go look. a bit of swiss cheese table might be livable if its a good drill

I have an Ajax b16 drill press (bench mounted) and it's a lovely drill IMO, however I only paid a fraction of the price of that one, and mines in far better condition...
