Personally I'd go for a three phase and run it through a vfd.

Just for clarification I am not looking for a motor for my M250 @SLEE is looking for a 220 Volt 2.2KW or 3HP motor for his M300 running straight of 220 Volt AC

For my M250 0.9kw

I got this Transwave Rotary converter even running them together won't push the converter to it's max

I also have a Mitsubishi FRD720S070SCEC 1.5 KW inverter still collecting the bits I might eventually convert the Lathe but for now I am keen to get stuck in and get the lathe working again after a long hiatus

I would disagree I have ALL my machines with their own dedicated VFD. The M300 runs off a Lenze unit and the config software is a breeze to use, just load it on the laptop and off you go, the Small Mill runs off a Jaguar unit and on reflection a cheapo Chinese unit would have been more cost effective. The tool and cutter grinder uses a Siemens unit that was a bargain second hand, the big belt sander linisher will run off a cheapo Chinese thing and the Colchester Master also runs from a cheapo unit. I will be changing the Gear Head Mill to three phase and the CNC lathe runs from a three phase servo unit. I avoid single phase motors if possible.

They're cheap enough now and they make such a difference when using the machines.

I would agree regarding vfd's that it adds functionality to machines, however once you count in the downtime to get all the bits and bobs together months has passed.
Months the machine could have been productive, if I really need a features that a VFD will provide then I will move to VFD right now the lathe has not worked for 4 years partially due to health issues and delay getting all the electric bits together, and I need the milling machine up and running ASAP, for me the Rotary converter makes sense for now.

I do not like cheap Chinesium VFD's the same makes and models don't hang around for long so it is not like you can copy and paste the same build and these things tend to blow up, as I have had with my belt sander then it is spending weeks with a new cheap model figuring out programming parameters and rewiring, so I prefer mitsubishi or Siemens maybe I am a VFD snob but at least they are consistant.
I am looking at another two VFD's Breakers, magnetic breakers and 24Volt DC PSU, add to that the buttons, enclosures, copex & wiring and suddenly this looks a lot more appetising to get my machines running.
