Another generator thread!

I am keeping my eye on this item on Fleabay, it'll be going in my garage which has no power and is too far away from the house to practicaly run a cable to.

any info on it would be appreciated (any good or rubbish)?

Looking at running drills, welders (140/130 amp, possibly bigger 180amp), angle grinder etc.

You can pick them up new for not much more.
Edit to add, I was thinking about the 3kva ones not the 6kva ones which are a fair bit more at £240 plus del here )

I doubt it will run the 140amp welder flat out never mind the 180 amp one. Basically any thing you would normally use on a 13amp plug would be ok ish.

Roughly you have 4500 watts avaliable.
If the welders volts are say 30v then you could go up to 150amps. BUT you need to take off the losses & start uploads.

5 Kva might be a bit light for the welder you are hoping to run? The other thing is that it is quoted at 3600 rpm which is 60 Hz so may affect what you wish to run?

Those thoughts did cross my mind, just wanted other peoples opinions on it before I commited to anything.

That said I do run my welder (210amp mig but cant run at over about 110amps by the time the long cable is taken into account) off a similar kva sized unit but it does have a larger diesel engine so does not slow down & it is speced for heavy duty work (IE it cost over £2k).

60hz would damage your electrical gear

Most everything will run fine at 60Hz; if not better. Induction motors will run faster though; that mat be an issue.

not here in the uk we are on 50hz my mates generator for some reason started to run fast and fried his tv slowed it back down no more problems

Thanks for the replies, I didn't bid on it in the end as it went beyond the limit I'd set for it.
