Another Aircon Unit Dies

Well, two days of 36° plus has killed the aircon unit. Thought we had found a good one with this Pump House unit which we bought last year to replace the three delonghis we went through before (all refunded under warranty luckily).

Been working okay, not as good as when it was new but I just put that down to how cheaply these are made.

Anyways, tonight we noticed the room is considerable hotter, 22°C rather than the usual 18°C the room gets down to.

That's when I started listening for the compressor to kick in. And it hasn't, not once for over an hour. The air coming out is cool, but not cold.

Thankfully it's still kinda working.

I doubt it's got more than a years warranty, so I might as well tear into it.

So, I'm guessing I'm looking for a refrigerant leak or the compressor having Seized.

you will get a shock when you see the fluff that gets past the intake filter and sticks to the condenser...cleaned mine last weekend and its back to ice cold

It could be clogged and just needing a.clean, as roofman says. If the condenser is clogged it will not properly liquify the refrigerant and.wouldnt cool properly. I don't know what type of unit it is but wouldn't think it's a refrigerant leak as presumably its a small unit with no pressure switches etc so compressor would run with no gas. I'd think the thermostat would bring the compressor on and off so would stat with that if filters are not clogged if stats OK id check start and run winding resistances and test to earth. I'm assuming it's a wee hermetic compressor?

Is this a single pipe portable unit? Hose poked out of a window jobby?

I have one that doesn't have a filter on the condenser and gets clogged up regularly, there are no removable covers, I have to take the thing apart.

My old aircon unit is still working fine - 20 years old and still blasts out cold air like it was new!

i went down the route of earth cooling and building tunnels within a 20ft garden the garden its longer than that but i used a mixture of tech

the area is shaded soon after dawn and has an earth garden built on top of it just to keep the heat away from the underground tubes with easy access to whats needed

2 slopping tunnels equals 40ft with a collection of water at one side the water can be drained and replaced

the unit has pass through clay tubes that water is sprinkled over them

youve seen what ive posted with the videos

its been really cool great to sleep in this heat i also used a solar pump but can be switched to mains instead

by using the coldness of the moving water and the concrete slopes which gives off alot of cold source just like stone drains

Single pipe, but two years ago I cored a duct through the wall so it discharges without any windows or doors open.

Filter on condenser and evaporator. Cleaned those tonight, build up of lint.

Both coils cleaned about 6 weeks ago - picked up a strange odour over winter. So cleaned with proper coil cleaner.
