Angle grinder advice needed

I want to buy a secondary grinder so I don't have to switch disc's all the time.
Already know that I don't want a Aldi cheapo, but an budget renowned brand. Also a 125mm since I have a bunch of disc's in that size already.
What I don't know is what power my new toy should have. I currently own a Metabo WQ1400.
Should I go for a lighter 700 watt model and use it for cutting tasks only and leave the heavy grinding to my WQ1400.?
Or a different tactic?
Feel free to enlighten me in this conundrum.

Well i've used aldi ones for years and had no problems whatever I have 3 they have lasted and worked well in fact was going tomorrow to buy another, and i work mine hard, one for grinding one for cutting and a flapwheel,I'm thinking of one for the van /spare. The ones in now have speed control also, handy for polishing.

Agree:
I have 2, had them for ages, call them my 'rough one' and my 'good one', the rough one has had the life hammered out of it, left out in the rain, dropped more times than I can count and it still works fine.

Well I like makita gear, and have loads but have had the small grinders go down before, just thought it was bad luck, but the aldi ones I havnt even put brushes in ! and at the price £19 dont think you can complain.

i went down to one 4 1/2" grinder as the old red one i had the brushes went and couldnt find any replacments.
and i got fed up keep changing cutting or grinding disc to soft disc etc.
so i got an aldi one. £20 and 3yr warranty, i didnt think it would be any good but i was quite supprised
works fine. has plently of power and speed control.
proberly get another

so i can have one as cutting, one for grinding and my other one for soft disc.

I had one of those budget ones disintegrate on me. So I'm a bit wary since.
Maybe I should try a Aldi one though.

Cant see you pushing them any harder than I do and I am well happy you could buy 3 for the cost of one major brand, mate had bought a bosch and it was £90 odd and had to send it back after a few mths the brushes went !

I swear by Bosch professional (blue) grinders, I have 3 and wouldn't buy anything else, I find them very reliable and nice to use.

On a similar thread a few people said they get cheap grinders and consider them as consumables. I use a hitachi and there's nothing I would change about it.

I had a couple of Aldi grinders over 6 years and they both expired within a fortnight of each other. I now have one left and bought a Metabo to replace the defunct ones. They are all 125mm ones and the Aldi one has a back handle which is handy sometimes whereas the shorter ones are better for tight spaces.

Agree, with pedrobedro! Whilst I find the aldi/lidl ones great ( I think I have 3 of them) they are quite 'long' in the body making them unsuitable for one handed use or in awkward corners, but are great on a workbench or an easy accessible job.

I also have a 20 year old hitachi which I tend to stick with in tricky corners.

I would happily recommend aldi/lidl grinders but keep the receipt as it's your guarantee.

I wouldn't worry, just use anything for anything

Aldi grinders are great,and supply new brushes in the package,The one I have has lasted years and still going strong (had to fit the new brushes last year) only fault I find with them is the body is too big to use one handed, I also have 3 Makita grinders that have nice slim bodies, I think they are 710watts, which I find is plenty for their usage, If you have lots of metal to shift use a 9" machine.

The whole lot for 179 euro's including vat. It's a 1100 watt slim design one.

Sounds decent. You might be able to sell the discs on and just end up with a free grinder .
