Android Help Please

I've installed a spirit-level app on my Android tablet and it works fine, but I can't get any compass apps to work.

It's my understanding that both these apps use the same hardware sensors in the device. I've had a good Google but can't find an answer - I'm sure someone on here will know!

Have you got gps and location setting on and given access to the app? I had that issue on my iPhone with a field measurement app...would t do a thing without gps and location enabled and that has a compass feature too

Ive had a few issues with compass apps you have to callibrate by waving the phone around as the diagram explains otherwise it wont work I got fed up with them in the end

some of the very cheap tablets only have an accelerometer and dont fit the compass sensor.

Apps dont always report this missing device and just sit their dumbly not responding.

It might be worth saying which device it is and I can try to find out if it should work or not.

It's an Acer Iconia B1-A41 running Android version 4.1.2

Since starting the thread I've had one app that says the compass isn't installed. There's something in there with a decent magnet though - it picked up a paper clip.

You can use an app such as sensorbox to check your various built-in sensors' operation.

Had the same sort of issue on a Windows phone.

Installed 4 or 5 compass apps, and only one told me the sensor wasn't installed on my phone, so went and bought a proper compass, much easier to use and it doesn't matter if I drop it..

i got that app i think u need to be outside too sorry if i am stating the obvious

that app is good for setting camber up on trucks too

Do you mean the Spirit Level app? It works fine indoors. My main use will be for setting my camera tripod.

I thought that might be the case, just means as you have discovered some apps wont behave. I think the star maps etc will still work but you have to set them after that it relies on the accelerometer to detect angle etc. At least it did on early OS's. Things have come on along way since I last did anything with Android ( apart from setting up the QVC app on my mothers Hudl ).......

no the compass works better out side the level can be used anywhere
