Android apps

I have recently got an android phone after years of having a windows phone. I'm hoping the app store is a little more comprehensive to say the least!
What apps can anyone recommend? I'm thinking useful stuff like spreadsheets or spirit level app or I beam calculator rather than cats doing stuff or games.

Some good ones I’ve got (admittedly I’ve got an iPhone from work but I’m sure they are on android too) are thread calculator from Hague, the RS toolbox app and the Miller weld settings app.

The Google Play store on Android is full of great apps. About a million times more choice than on the Windows platforms. I was a rock solid Nokia user until they started using the Windows operating system - after the 2nd Windows based Nokia smartphone I moved onto a Samsung S6 Galaxy and have never looked back since.

I have this app and find it invaluable: Length/fractions calculator I also have this a metal weight calculator which although is useful I only use it occasionally.... but it's good to have.

Not an app but I find the camera invaluable for zooming in on rulers etc for precise measuring. Also for looking at the back of machines or under the sofa!
There are magnifying applications but these days the cameras are so good you don't really need them unless you need real close up stuff.
Oh and flash should be off by default - even in very low light it is usually a pain.

I have shiptracker and plane tracker on my phone which I like using.

moonreader is great for Ebooks

RealCalc scientific calculator, there is a free and pay version, liked it so much I bought the full app

Some of the ones I use the most.

ThreadCalculator, meant mainly for G Code for CNC threading but gives thread info and tapping drill sizes. Free version only has a few threads but Pro has much more.
DGS Tides, give you tidal predictions if you are in need of such a thing. It is the android version of the WX Tide for PC.
Search Bearings, again Pro version has many more options.
FS Wizard, Pro version gives loads of machining feeds/speeds etc for CNC mainly.
ES File explorer, much better than the generic one that usually comes with Android phones.
QuickPic, gallery viewer.
Metal Calculator, weights etc for various types/shapes of metal.
VLC Media player.
E Drawings view Solidworks drawings etc.
QR & Barcode scanner.

I listen to a lot of podcasts on earphones in work, there's loads of podcast apps, I use podcast addict.
I would recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History series, Blueprint for Armageddon, the history and cause of the first world war, also his Common Sense series, discussing topical issues.
Also Daniele Bollele's History on Fire series, the one on Theodore Roosevelt is Brilliant.
There's loads of stuff to listen to , depending on your interests.

Locus map - used in conjunction with MOBAC (Mobile Atlas Creator) on the PC allows customised maps to be used.

GPS Keeper pro - keeps the GPS running when other applications stop using it. Saves a lot of time searching for satellites

Yes ES file explorer is great - use it all the time.

I also have mm tracker which I have err modified a little. I have every OS map of the UK on there - awesome for hill walking! Good for boating as well as OS maps show rocks etc between high and low water.

sin cos tan angle finder, put in two known mesurements and it gives you all the angles and lengths of the triangle, great for farm buildings, portal frames ets

TuneIn Radio. Listen to radio online while ticking off things on your To Do list
WhatsApp. The other half messages you things to add to your To Do list.
Show Box (not in app store, but available online to download). Unwind by watching movies and telly for free. To Do list can wait until tomorrow

Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook free for use on phone sized device
Touchdown HD - paid for mail client that has some features that make it better than outlook for me
WhatsApp - group or individual messaging app, works over wifi as well as roaming
google backup and sync - auto backup of photos and sharing
microsoft onedrive more auto backup and sharing
National Trust - tells you about the local places near your current location
